What is professional teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening, also called bleaching, uses a whitening gel to lighten the colour of the enamel. Done in the clinic, it is carried out under a dentist’s supervision: your teeth are checked first, your gums and lips are protected, and the strength and timing are controlled for your teeth.
Professional whitening lightens stains that brushing and polishing cannot remove, such as those from tea, coffee, food, tobacco or simply age. It is one of the quickest ways to refresh your smile, and it is often the first step of a smile makeover.
Whitening works on natural teeth. Existing caps, fillings and veneers do not change colour, which is why we check your teeth before treatment and tell you what result to expect.
Is teeth whitening right for you?
Whitening usually suits people with healthy teeth and gums who have:
- Yellowing or dullness that has built up over the years
- Stains from tea, coffee, paan, tobacco or food
- An uneven shade they would like to brighten before a wedding or event
- Plans for new crowns or fillings and want them matched to a lighter shade
How in-clinic whitening works
Most patients need one or two visits.
Shade check and examination
We record your current shade and check for cavities, gum problems or sensitivity that should be treated first.
Protecting your gums
Your gums and lips are covered so the whitening gel touches only the teeth.
Whitening
The gel is applied and left for a set time, sometimes in more than one round, while we monitor your comfort.
Results and advice
We compare the new shade and give you simple advice to keep it.
After whitening
Some temporary sensitivity is common for a day or two and usually settles on its own.
- For the first 48 hours, avoid strongly coloured food and drink such as tea, coffee, turmeric curries and cola
- Avoid smoking, which quickly re-stains teeth
- Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth if you feel any twinges
- Keep up regular cleaning visits; results last longer when tartar and surface stains are removed
Teeth whitening in Ghatkopar & Kurla with Dental Solutions
Whitening at Dental Solutions is always done after a check-up, not as a stand-alone cosmetic service. If something needs attention first, such as a cavity, gum inflammation or tartar, we tell you, so the whitening is safe and the result is even.
Both our clinics, on LBS Marg in Kurla West and Ghatkopar West, offer whitening, with evening appointments six days a week.
